The EuropeStar 1 satellite was designed and manufactured by Alcatel Espace, Toulouse (France) for EuropeStar. Built on a Space Systems / Loral in Palo Alto, California, FS 1300 platform, it is equipped with 30 KU tape transponders. It is used for television broadcasting and data transmission for Europe, South Africa, the Midwest, and India. Its launching dimensions are 2.70mx 5.50mx 3.50m and its wingspan in orbit is 24.70m. It weighs 4167 kg at launch, with a dry weight of 1717 kg. It will be positioned at 45 degrees East, above the Indian Ocean. Its life span is fifteen years.
