The IGS-Optical 3V (Intelligence Gathering Satellite), is an experimental optical reconnaissance satellite testing new technologies for the next generation of IGS satellites. The satellite serves both Japan's national defense and civil natural disaster monitoring.

The IGS-Radar 1 and 2 (Intelligence Gathering Satellite), built by Mitsubishi Electric (MELCO), are radar reconnaissance satellite with a projected life of 5 years. The satellite will be operated by the Cabinet Satellite Information Center. The 1200 kg IGS-Radar is equipped with a synthetic aperture radar. The resolution is probably about 3 meter. The satellite serves both Japan's national defense and civil natural disaster monitoring.
