Mission Details

Kondor-E

The Kondor-E is a small radar Earth observation satellite designed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya. It is built for a foreign customer, the military of South Africa under Project "Consolidated Flute". It is unclear, if South Africa holds the ownership of the satellite.

The Kondor satellite features a S-band synthetic apperture radar (SAR), which can conduct both continous swath surweys or detailed spot surveys. The swath width is 10 km. Ground resolution is 1-2 m in spotlight mode, 1-3 m in stripmap mode and 5-30 m in ScanSAR mode.

The prototype was named Cosmos 2487. A civilian version is being developped as Kondor-FKA.
