The KH-8 Block 4, an iteration of the Gambit-3 reconnaissance satellites, introduced significant improvements including a dual-platen camera system, enhanced film capabilities, and increased reliability. Satellites in this series featured advancements in both the photographic payload and satellite control sections, enhancing imaging versatility and system performance. The camera system maintained high-resolution capabilities, while the Astro-Position Terrain Camera (APTC) provided additional functionality for terrain and stellar observation, aiding in attitude determination and navigation.
