Launch Notes

The flight failed because of low-frequency waves that caused the rocket to explode. This failure resulted in the bankruptcy of EER Systems, and the last flight of Conestoga.

Multiple Experiment Transport to Earth Orbit & Return

METEOR (Multiple Experiment Transport to Earth Orbit & Return), formerly COMET (Commercial Experiment Transporter), was a NASA program to develop a commercially available experiment transporter for microgravity experiments over longer periods. The METEOR consisted of a recovery module and an orbital module, both carrying experiments. After 20 - 30 days in space, the recovery module was to return to Earth and land in the Atlantic Ocean (originally Utah was to be the landing area). The orbital module was to remain in space and continue the onboard experiments.
