Similar to Salyut 6 and 7, but with less scientific instrumentation, plus a multiple docking node on the forward end and an additional docking port on the rear (total of 6 ports), allowing for 5 additional modules to be docked to DOS-7 in the future. There were also general technological upgrades in automation and comfortable living for the crew.
