34Kh6 was an Soviet experimental geostationary satellite, which was positioned at 24° West. Possibly the purpose of Kosmos-1940 was to detect nuclear tests.

Reportedly it was built by VNIIEM and was based on the Meteor bus. The name Geofizika has also been associated with this satellite.
