The 2nd stage lost thrust after only 8 seconds of burning due to fuel line obstruction.
The objective of the Vanguard SLV1 and SLV2 satellites was to launch into orbit a fully instrumented, 20in, 10 kg Lyman-alpha satellite. This satellite was to study solar Lyman-alpha radiation and to make certain space environment measurements; it was identical to the Vanguard x-ray satellite of TV-5 except that it covered the 1100 to 1300 Å wavelength bands.
