Wiki

During production of DSP Phase II spacecraft (5-9), Satellites 5 and 6 were stored initially, then retrofitted as 5R and 6R. They featured improved RADEC and primary IR sensors, including the Sensor Evolutionary Development (SED) with 6000 detectors for better resolution and an Above the Horizon (ATH) capability. The addition of Mercury Cadmium Telluride (HgCdTe) detectors enabled a second waveband capability (MWIR). These upgrades increased weight to 1674 kg, with solar panels generating 680 Watts. Despite enhancements, the design life remained at three years. The Phase II Upgrade satellites are distinguished by differences in sensor size and shape, along with unique triangular solar panel paddles.
